JOHN CARDWELL SR (1715-1795)
(Sixth Great Grandfather)

This is a copy of his Will

EARLY CARDWELLS
OF KENTUCKY

On December 21, 1795 the will of John Cardwell (above) was proved  in the court of Prince Edward County, Virginia.     It named wife, Keziah, and the following children: Thomas, Elizabeth Nickolds, Ann Steger, Mary Carry, John Cardwell, Martha Epperson, William, James, Wiltshire, Lucy Carry, and George.  Several sources state that this John who died in 1795 was the son of Thomas and Martha (Perrin) Cardwell and that his wife's maiden name was Keziah Low. Prince Edward County, Virginia Marriages.  Mary Cardwell married Harwood Cary on November 10, 1788, Wiltshire Cardwell married Mary Russell on December 3, 1792, Lucy Cardwell married William Haynes Cary on April 28, 1793, George Cardwell married Ann Hamilton on January 24, 1796.  There is considerable evidence that four of the sons of John and Keziah Cardwell settled in Mercer in Franklin County, Kentucky.

The four sons that went to Kentucky were:  James Cardwell  - John Cardwell  -  William Cardwell and…

George Cardwell (My Ancestor).  The fourth brother to move to Mercer county was the youngest son of John and Keziah --GEORGE CARDWELL (my ancestor) Mercer County Deed Book 19 page 310, shows his heirs (1835) as john G. and Ann Cardwell, John Lyon, William and Barbara Cardwell, Keziah Cardwell, William and Jane Woods, Harvey and Rebecca Cunningham, Wyatt Cardwell, William and Martha Smithey, and George W, and Ida B. Cardwell.  Several of his family moved to Missouri.

I have a great deal of information on the Cardwell Family - can't wait to share with my family!
