Beautiful Viola Mildred Deweese

Viola Mildred Deweese

Finding documents which authenticate research is inspiring and simply pulls it all together.  Today's post is a find that I just happened upon after a distant cousin reached out to me after seeing my BLOG … just a new path… same family…
and on it goes… let's begin...

Viola Mildred Deweese

INDIAN TERRITORY ~ Oklahoma
This part of my family was either born and raised, moved, or forced to move to this part of our Country known as Indian Territory from the mid-late 1800s through early 1900.

Viola Mildred Deweese (I read in one document that she preferred to be called Mildred) was born on November 16, 1912,in Miami, Oklahoma - (Miami was a town in Indian Territory and named after the Miami Tribe).  She was the daughter of Truman L. Deweese and Annie B. Deweese.

In an Indian Census Roll - Quapaw Indian Agency - April 1, 1932~
Annie Deweese Daugherty (Mildred's Mother) and
Sylvester & Truman (Mildred's brothers) are listed as
Eastern Shawnee with Degree of Blood being 3/4 for Annie
and 3/8 Mildred and her two brothers.

Tribe:Eastern Shawnee, Miami, Ottawa, Peoria, Quapaw, Seneca, And Wyandot
Reservation:Eastern Shawnee
Agency:Quapaw Indian
State:Oklahoma

~HOWEVER~
Mildred's Mother - Annie Deweese Daughtry - is listed as
Full Blooded Cherokee in the
CHEROKEE ROLL, INDIANS BY BLOOD
(just another 'fun' avenue to travel)

Annie Daugherty (Mother of Viola Mildred) -Listed as full-blooded Cherokee
Jennie Daugherty? Not sure who she is at this point...

Indian Territory is listed as residency for Viola's Family and Ancestors
for many, many years. Indian Territory, also known as the Indian Territories and the Indian Country, was land within the United States of America
reserved for the forced re-settlement of Native Americans

I find her 'strikingly' beautiful...

1930
In 1930, Mildred Deweese was 17 years old and lived in Wyandotte, Oklahoma
with her father, mother, and 2 brothers.  She went to college for at least one year.

July 15, 1938
Viola Mildred Dewese married Roy Amos on July 15, 1938, in Jasper, Missouri.
I found on a 1940 Census the name of one child for the couple -
Arbara (Barbara?) C Amos (Still living?)

Mildred and her husband Roy Amos

She died on March 21, 2000, in Chetopa, Kansas, at the age of 87,

and was buried in Columbus, Kansas.
