WINCHESTER CATHEDRAL

9th GREAT GRANDFATHER

My "Dead People" study goes on.
As it goes on, the unearthing of knowledge is vast.
I have no way of knowing where I'm going or where I'll end.
I stopped many times on the way up the chain with
the sole purpose of doing a blog entry.
I could not stop the journey ... now I know why.

Where I ended on this search; well, meant to be.
As a trip to England is on my list of places to go
before I become a "dead person"...
the time is drawing near to begin the planning.
Elizabeth, get right on this!

Henry was buried on September 17, 1657.
Our beautiful daughter, Elizabeth, was born on
September 17, 1980. 323 years apart.
Love those quirky things ... I believe they have
great meaning.

Don and Billy. Love bare-footed Don.

The death of Don was a sad time for all of us. Our ‘growing up days’ were simple - full of  fun, swimming, name-calling (that still happens - even at funerals - shame on you Jerry Ross Vinson), eating, crying, laughing, hiding, and on and on.

Sunday afternoons together ... we are now our parents.

Paths to different places. Times together and apart.
We were all back together at Don’s funeral.

We are all different.
Thank God for that.
We are all the same.
Thank God for that.

Don and sister Carolyn

Thank you, Donald Lee Goff.
You were the best of the best!
I love you... we love you!

DA & DOVIE HAVE A STORY TO TELL

I BELIEVE ONE MUST BE STILL AND LISTEN.
My paternal Grandmother (Mary Dovie Martin Allison) died when my Daddy was a young boy. He was cheated. . .

Sunday, January 27, 2016
Sometimes we all need to be reminded what life is all about.
I was still; and I listened.
My Grandmother Dovie had one full brother.
Arthur was two years older than her.
This is a celebration ~

ARTHUR MARTIN

DOVIE MARTIN ALLISON

Little was known to me about my Great Uncle Arthur Martin.
My Daddy spoke of his Uncle Arthur from time to time; but I never asked questions.
One should always seize the moment . . . I know that now.
But, honestly, I don’t believe my Daddy ‘knew’ anything . . . Why not?

Throughout the past few years, I have thought of him often.
What did I know ... he left home young, served in the military, and lived out his life in Arizona.
That is all.

I WAS STILL. AND I LISTENED.
THIS WEEK, I LOCATED HIS GRANDDAUGHTER, CELESTE, IN ARIZONA.

We spoke on the phone . . .  Powerful . . . Emotional . . . Family.

DA” - (that was what his family called him) - had a family.
A large family - my family - my blood . . .
I am blessed - our families are blessed.

DA and DOVIE have a story to tell.

With great love,
Dovie’s Granddaughter & Da’s Great Niece

A WESTERN MAN BY BIRTH: Julius Lincoln Poole

Puzzle Before Poole

I have never enjoyed solving puzzles from a box.
Many were placed before me; however, I scarcely remember
‘putting those small pieces together to form something’ -
just didn’t fancy the activity!

The Genealogy Puzzle is an ‘unraveling’ -
The foraging in a jungle -
Going through with a fine-tooth comb -
Making sure the factualness is indeed factual.

This study of ‘dead people’ has a near-religious rightness about it.
I try to see records through the eyes of people who made them - the recorders;
as well as the people who are recorded.
It’s only a worm’s eye view of history ... but it’s a view.

... and now ... on with the show!

63 AND ME

63 and ME - CAN WE BE FRIENDS?

I find myself in this moment, in a happy place.
Positive energy and a peacefulness I haven’t felt in many, many days.

I have decided to be friends with “63” - better friends than enemies. Also, I will take full responsibility of this aging process (as much as God will allow) - and age with GRACE.

Gratitude – being thankful, or feeling gratitude, is an essential part of acceptance and satisfaction … a kindness we allow for ourselves.

Resilence – accepting a weakness and then powering through it can be a struggle.  I’ve found that others in our life sometimes try to sabotage the “forgiveness” we allow for ourselves. A while back, I wrote a note to someone stating that ‘I had forgiven myself for …’. That person used my statement to enhance a hurt…the someone laughed and joked to others ‘she forgives herself? How do you forgive yourself if others haven’t forgiven you?’ Such garbage. I still believe we must all forgive ourselves in order to live a life filled with love and grace.  As for any more apologies to that specific someone, I’ll take care of things from afar.

Attitude: Attitude affects all human interaction – we can all work on this one! I don’t need to
explain my thoughts on this one other than to say ones attitude may be observable. We drive
future interactions to a negative or positive place – everyone ‘drives’ with their own attitude.

Courage: It takes courage to age gracefully and to live with grace. I will. Aloneness takes courage to endure.

Education: I will forever educate others and myself. Always!

Today, April 6th, I choose love and grace. If I matter in a heart – that’s great. I can do no more. I will be the best person I can be – I’ll never say perfect.I will not judge others - I’ve felt that
whip and lived through it. We can’t control getting older on the calendar, but it’s all good. I have no need to control the time, today is a beautiful day. All we really have is today. God and Grace.

If you truly know me, you get my humor. I’m serious and steadfast; but I choose ‘funny’ if it fits the moment. Right now, as I compose thoughts, is a
perfect time for funny. I can do that because I’m 63…and ME!

....
The older I get the more I realize the value of privacy. Of cultivating your circle and only letting certain people in. You can be open, honest, and real while understanding not everyone deserves a seat at the table of your life.

Back to serious…”Thank you for being a marigold.”
The sweetest words ever spoken to me by a former group of
college students…I pray to always be a marigold to someone.

This first day of “63” is beautiful. I feel blessed in many ways. Today is my Birthday. Tomorrow begins another year’s journey. Whatever has been held for me – is unconditional love.
This I believe.

MOMENTS OF FOREVER For Elizabeth

MOMENTS OF FOREVER

August 20, 2016

Dear Elizabeth,

Your baby girl started kindergarten this past week.  My baby girl’s baby girl started kindergarten. How did time pass so fast?  When you and I entered the school building for ‘your’ first day of kindergarten, I experienced a ‘moment of forever’ - that moment when you know that ‘forever’ has changed.  This day is the real deal.

There will be other moments when forever changes. Somehow, though, this is a monumental ‘moment of forever’.  Realizing that you must give your child up to the less-than-perfect world that awaits them – well, it takes your breath time after time … after time. Every step along your parenting journey, many will offer advice; however, I have no advice. You, Elizabeth, are the smartest and most lovely being my world - a beautiful design. You and I have often spoken these words “...we could never have patterned Ella Kate and Graham better than God’s design.”  Your daddy and I feel the same way about you.

As you watch your children grow and learn the ways of the world, their joy is the magic of life. They, too, will begin their own 'forevers'  far too soon.  Cherish this time.  And know that in our imperfect world, with all my imperfect ways, I have been given you and your babies … the three most perfect gifts one could hope for.

Just thinking about how much I love you…Mom

FINALITY - BATESVILLE CASKET CRANK
