MOMENTS OF FOREVER

Dear Elizabeth,

Your baby girl started kindergarten this past week.  My baby girl’s baby girl started kindergarten. How did time pass so fast?  When you and I entered the school building for ‘your’ first day of kindergarten, I experienced a ‘moment of forever’ - that moment when you know that ‘forever’ has changed.  This day is the real deal.


There will be other moments when forever changes. Somehow, though, this is a monumental ‘moment of forever’.  Realizing that you must give your child up to the less-than-perfect world that awaits them – well, it takes your breath time after time … after time. Every step along your parenting journey, many will offer advice; however, I have no advice. You, Elizabeth, are the smartest and most lovely being my world - a beautiful design. You and I have often spoken these words “...we could never have patterned Ella Kate and Graham better than God’s design.”  Your daddy and I feel the same way about you.

As you watch your children grow and learn the ways of the world, their joy is the magic of life. They, too, will begin their own 'forevers'  far too soon.  Cherish this time.  And know that in our imperfect world, with all my imperfect ways, I have been given you and your babies … the three most perfect gifts one could hope for.

8th Great Grandmother - Powhatan Indian Mary Ann 'Little Flower' Baskett Lots of reading in this post... Here we go… Mary Ann 'Little Flower' Baskett was born  about  1662   in  Chickacoen (Chickacorn) District, Lancaster,Virginia.  She was a Powhatan Indian.  She married Thomas  Cardwell SR (my 8th Great Grandfather) in either 1681 or 1684.  They had four sons and three daughters between 1681 and 1700.  'Little Flower' died before  June 1737   in Henrico County, Virginia Reconstructed Powhatan village at the Jamestown Settlement  living-history museum. Robert Tolar and Mary Frances Autry (Robert Tolar My 1st Cousin 5X Removed) Robert Tolar  and my 4th Great Grandmother (Sarah Toler - married  Revolutionary War Patriot John Allison JR)  were brother and sister. ROBERT TOLAR was born November 03, 1804 in Cumberland Co., NC, and died  October 10, 1887 in North Carolina. He married MARY FRANCES AUTRY May 24, 1826  in Cumberland Co., NC, daughter of THEOPHLIS AUTRY and ELIZABETH CRUMPLER. She was born August 25, 1805 in North Carolina, and died March 29, 1887 in NC. THE ALLISON’S HOME CHURCH - LITTLE RIVER PRESBYTERIAN, ORANGE COUNTY, NC

 LITTLE RIVER PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH  & CEMETERY, ORANGE COUNTY, NC THE ALLISON CONNECTION Little River Township in North Carolina is beautiful.  There is a calmness that fills my soul; a feeling of family.  This is the area where my ancestors settled prior to 1755. Standing amid the headstones I get a sense of the area in  which they lived and the legacy they left for us. The Little River Presbyterian Church and Cemetery was established in 1761.     Joseph Allison, my 5th Great Grand Uncle, was a Charter Member of Little River Presbyterian Church. His grave is recorded, but unmarked. Joseph came south from Pennsylvania to North Carolina with his brother John (my 5th Great Grandfather) and their Mother Grizzell Wray Allison. Joseph and his family remained in the Little River and Hillsborough area as did my 5th Great Grandfather John Robert Allison SR.
