BABE ~ ANDY ~ Cotton Mills

Eveline 'BABE' Cantrell
2nd Great Maternal Grandmother

Born - May 3, 1859 DeKalb County, Tennessee
She was the daughter of Jesse R. Cantrell and Elizabeth Fuson, and one of 16 children.
(That number '16' appears to be accurate - still working to make sure)
Died - December 12, 1939 Merrimack, Madison County, Alabama

Babe and her husband Andrew 'Andy' Gambrell were married on July 10, 1881.

They had 8 children in 11 years.  She died at the age of 80.

Babe is buried in the Merrimack Cemetery in Alabama
Andrew died 18 years before Babe from bronchial pneumonia.
He is buried at the Dobb's Cemetery in Putnam County, Tennessee

The U.S. Census Record for 1920 (January 16) shows that Andrew and Babe
are living in the Merrimack Township, County of Madison in Alabama.
Son James is listed as being the age of 38.
Both Andrew and James are listed
as working in the cotton mills.
Madison County led Alabama in cotton production during the Great Depression.

Andrew died in Putnam County, Tennessee.  Not quite sure how or why he was back in Tennessee.  Babe must have stayed behind and continued to live in Alabama with
either son James or Henry Harrison (both lived in Madison County, Alabama, during that time).  My Great Grandmother, Pearl - daughter of Babe and Andy - was their first born.
She was born in DeKalb County, Tennessee and died in Putnam County, Tennessee.

Marriage Record of Babe's Parents

Andrew's Death Certificate
Cause of Death  - Bronkler Pneumonia
I love these old death certificates…what history!
